Matemwe Lodge

Vibrant yet relaxed, Matemwe was one of the first lodges in Zanzibar. It has perfected the tropical island experience.
Perched on an outcrop overlooking a shallow coral fringed lagoon, Matemwe’s peaceful location and famed relaxed atmosphere make it the ideal place to unwind.

Built from local materials and surrounded by beautiful lush gardens, the 12 spacious bungalows with private verandas and hammocks  offer expansive views of the Indian Ocean. All rooms are self-contained and include colored Persian baths in huge bathrooms.

The open-air restaurant overlooks the ocean and has a tranquil area to lounge in as well. Seafood is the specialty of the house, with all produce bought daily from the local markets.

Matemwe also offers a wide range of activities such as snorkeling and diving around the Mnemba atoll, sailing in traditional nglawa outriggers, traditional and deep-sea fishing, guided reef walks in front of the bungalows and a large variety of Spa treatments. A perfect place for honeymooners.
