Kigelia is a simply beautiful camp in the best wildlife area of the park. Elephants are frequent visitors along with many bird species. Walks between the giant baobabs and along the sand rivers in the area are always rewarding, especially if they end with a picnic! One of the things we like most about Ruaha is that we seldom see another car or person.
The camp consists of only six tents and it’s certainly not camping like you know it – they are airy tents that provide shelter from the elements without detracting from the beauty of the natural bush setting…no manicured lawns here! The tents are well furnished with locally crafted pale wood furniture and a hot safari-style bucket shower (the showers are en-suite but outdoors) and a flush toilet. One of the tents is a family tent with two adjoining en-suite bedrooms.
The camp kitchen whips up some tasty feasts – simple but satisfying meals served in the intimate dining tent or under the stars. Like all bush camps, there’s a campfire where the essential sundowner can be enjoyed as the hot day gives way to a cool night.
