Kilimanjaro Airport, Tanzania
Arrive to Kilimanjaro International airport in Tanzania. Barking Zebra staff will greet you at the airport and escort you to tonight’s lodge nearby Arusha.
Enjoy the rest. Your safari adventure starts tomorrow!
You’ll be transported from the bustling town of Arusha to Tarangire National Park – a gem of a location known for its diversity of wildlife and often referred to as “The Little Serengeti.” Tarangire’s wonderfully varied landscape of rolling hills and golden savannah, generously dotted with acacias and baobabs, is home to diverse birdlife, large cats and massive elephant herds. Herds as large as 150 elephants are considered a usual sighting.
We stay for two nights at a permanent tented camp located only 15 minutes from the Tarangire gate. The camp is situated on palm tree populated plains next to Lake Manyara and enjoys magnificent views of the Rift Valley in the background.
Maasai Village Visit and Lake Manyara National Park
This morning we’ll meet with the Maasai tribe and witness some of their long-standing traditions.
There will be an opportunity to join in on a dance celebration and have a private session with the village elders.
We continue our journey to our lodge in the Ngorongoro Highlands stopping in Lake Manyara for a picnic lunch and a short game drive.
This morning we travel to the famous Serengeti National Park stopping at Olduvai Gorge to explore the archaeological museum where Louis and Mary Leakey discovered fossil fragments that lead them to a new understanding of human evolution.
After a picnic lunch we continue our drive to the camp in the Serengeti.
Spend two idyllic days exploring the vast Serengeti plains. In the mornings and afternoons explore the savannah from a vehicle. Search for lions or cheetah along the edge of the woodlands or head out into the vast plains in search of the game. Stop for a sundowner as the sun sinks below the horizon and when back in the camp, enjoy a delicious meal and listen to the sounds unfolding around you.
Optional activities: Hot-Air Balloon ride complete with champagne breakfast.
The safari adventure continues to Ngorongoro Crater. We descend 2,000 feet to the floor of the crater, where volcanic slopes shelter the highest concentration of wildlife on the planet. 25,000 or so animals, including the rare rhino, mingle together. You are never out of sight of wildlife.
Enjoy the picnic lunch on the crater’s verdant floor. In the afternoon continue with the exploration of the crater.
We end this exciting journey shopping for last minute souvenirs and visiting a local artist center in Arusha. Relax in your day room before your evening home-bound flight or continue exploring more of Tanzania by adding on an adventure from our safari extension.
